Omega Fatty Acids

Not only do almost all superfoods have high levels of multiple antioxidants, but many used in skincare has numerous fatty acids and vitamins. We’ll discuss some of the properties of the most common fatty acids and then dig into our favorite superfood ingredients used in our skincare products.

Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) – a polyunsaturated essential fatty acid found mostly in plant oils. It helps keep water in and aids in creating dry oils for fast absorption. Skin remains hydrated and looks supple and smooth.

Ingredients high in Linoleic Acid include:

Evening Primrose OilNourish my skin Crème. Evening primrose oil is the oil derived from the seeds of the evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) plant. The oil is extracted from the seeds using a cold-press method to preserve nutrients. The plant is native to North America and was used in different preparations by Native Americans. The oil from the seed contains about 10% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 essential fatty acid (EFA) and 72% linoleic acid. Evening primrose rose oil contains a higher concentration of both GLA and linoleic essential fatty acids than many other oils.

Evening primrose oil is excellent for the overall health of the skin. This magic oil is known to be a great moisturizer. Not only does it make the skin soft, but it also supplies it with essential nutrients and healthy fats, making your skin look youthful and flawless.

The anti-inflammatory properties of this oil also help reduce swelling, redness, itching, and rashes on the skin.

Evening primrose oil is known to lighten the skin and reduce hyper-pigmentation or any dark spots.

Hemp Seed Oil – Day Spa Lotion. Hempseed oil is commonly used on skin because it works as a natural moisturizer and nourishes the skin. You’ll see it as an ingredient in many cosmetic products, lotions and soaps. It is also an antioxidant and may benefit the skin when used topically. The fatty acids in hempseed oil can help to moisturize your hair and scalp, adding to your own natural oils, and is often found in hair shampoos and conditioners. The omega-3s in hempseed oil will also add shine, tame unruly hair and give it strength.

Oleic Acid (Omega-9)

A monounsaturated fatty acid that absorbs well and aids in softening skin.

Ideal for deep nourishment and moisturizing, oils high in Oleic Acid are extra-occlusive and help seal in moisture, making it ideal for dry skin. Oils high in oleic acid have a longer shelf life than oils high in linoleic acid and work well in night creams, serums, and eye creams.

Skin Lightening - Sweet almond oil can work as an excellent skin lightener and treat bad sunburns, skin coloration disorders, under-eye circles, scars or other blemishes that you want to eliminate.

Hair Care - The oil can strengthen your hair and reduce hair loss. The rejuvenating quality of vitamin E can help boost the health of your hair follicles and increase the luster and volume of your hair.

Prevents Premature Aging - The regular use of this essential oil can help you look your youthful best. The antioxidant potential of vitamin E, certain fatty acids, and other active ingredients in almond oil neutralizes free radicals before they can cause issues like skin elasticity, wrinkles, and age spots.

Additional Superfoods in Organic Moon Products

Blueberries – Nourish my skin Crème. Like all dark- and brightly colored berries (the lot of which count as superfoods) blueberries are a phenomenal source of antioxidants known as polyphenols, which have a notable ability to visibly calm skin. Skin is bombarded daily with things that can sensitize it, so anything you can do to defend against this damage leads to better skin.

Olive Oil – Nourish my skin Crème. We all know that olive oil is one of the healthiest vegetable oils, along with coconut oil. Not only can you consume this nutritious food and receive numerous benefits, you can also use it to boost the nutrient value of your beauty products. Adding olive oil to your beauty routine may provide immense benefits to your skin, hair, and nails.

Antioxidant Protection - Olive oil contains three major antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. Antioxidants, when topically applied, may help protect the skin from premature skin aging. Vitamin E partly accounts for the anti-aging benefits of olive oil because it helps restore skin smoothness and protects against ultraviolet light. Hydroxytyrosol, a rather rare compound found in olive oil, also prevents free radical damage to the skin.

Olive oil is touted for several beauty benefits, including the following:

Moisturizing skinImproving skin elasticity and its regenerative propertiesProviding antioxidants and good fats to fight free radicals and facilitate skin healingReducing under-eye wrinklesMassaging dry, flakey scalp or dandruffMassaging frizzy hair or split ends

Green tea – Day Spa Conditioner. This popular beverage is among the most researched antioxidants and considered among the most effective for addressing signs of aging, including wrinkles and loss of firmness. One component in green tea, known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), is especially impressive. We include EGCG in several products.
